Sunshine Award!
Sometimes surprises arrive when you least expect it. Just now I commented on dear Tink’s blog post on her receipt of the Sunshine Award, sending the comment and only then reading the entire blog post. That’s when I caught sight of my own nomination for the award (which is in fact the actual receipt if the award and not just a nomination).
A Great Moment in My Life Award
Awarding the people who live in the moment The noble who write and capture the best in life The bold who reminded us what really mattered Savouring the experience of quality time Experienced Tutors – who give private English tuition – passed on this memorable award to me. Am I happy and do I feel blessed because of this? Absolutely! Doing back flips, triple Salchow jumps and to top it off, a… if-I-may-say-so… brilliant high jump onto my bed… that’s how happy and blessed I am! (my mattress is groaning under the strain of the jumps, but it knows me… heaven only knows I spend a lot of time sleeping on it! So yep, from my mattress and myself: Experienced Tutors, thank you!)
Liebster Award!
Last night I was nominated for a Liebster Award by Marcus of He Has MS on hehasms.com. Please take a look at his blog because you will be inspired, that is a fact! And yes… so chuffed once again for receiving an award myself! Marcus is 35 and he is an inspiration to many of us who live lives ruled by multiple sclerosis. His story mirrors mine in many ways but where I am experiencing slow progression, Marcus went from bad to worse in a short period of time. Simply because of that I find him inspiring and he deserves all the support he can get. I am once again chuffed to receive a blog award and it means even more to me because Marcus chose me together with other…
Personal Space
My reason for blogging started as a lesson in writing. I was a blogging virgin trying to find my way around some of the issues living with a chronic and degenerative illness brings. Soon I felt that writing could be more than just that; it would also be a lesson in creating a web page with backgrounds, pictures and widgets, something I had never really done before safe from creating and updating SharePoint pages at work. Therefore, while my mind was slowly becoming at ease about my illness because of the therapy writing seemed to be, my creativity became paramount because I found out that I actually could create something that others might like. Most bloggers would lie if we said we only want to write for ourselves. If that…
Why blog?
Have you ever heard of bibliotherapy? Wikipedia describes it as ‘a therapy that uses a person’s relationship to the content of books and poetry and other written words and it’s often combined with writing therapy.’ Where other people might need bibliotherapy, I consider writing a help to ease past issues like being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005. However, when I started my blog, I didn’t think writing would become some sort of therapy I would find useful and it was not the initial goal. That goal only became clear after blogging for about a year, and realising it helped me settle my relationship towards my illness and eventually, seeing things in a more realistic way.
Dogs: miracles with paws
If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience. (Woodrow Wilson) It’s cold. Very cold. It’s so cold my toes are curling upwards; my fingers are going inwards, and my eyelashes are curling sideways. That’s how cold it is. What feels warm is looking at my mum’s dogs, a female Beagle lying next to my feet, and as always, oblivious to the world. The other, a Cavoodle, the red-haired, funny, tiny one is helping me write this post by sitting on the side of my laptop. With his bum on the numerical keys. Thank god for antibacterial wipes. For now, I tolerate his dominance of my laptop. He’s testing my resolve. I’m testing his. It can’t…
