    Making sense of MS

"Even with forced rest breaks and scheduling tasks around my MS, I still have a way of falling asleep in the most unusual poses and ways. If I were to introduce you to my mum, she could keep you up all night with my falling asleep antics. Of course, she’d still be talking to you, while I ungracefully slump over, drop books, am asleep within the first 3 to 5 minutes, sleep through loud fireworks, airplanes or my own house alarm blaring loudly. Like my nana always used to say, “When you do something, you have to do it properly.”

    Friendship

To the many friends that were in my life because of work, in Ireland and elsewhere, and to those who were in my life before MS crashed into my environment… thank you for the fun times, the many discussions we learned from, the trips we went on and the sorrow-free late evening chats… To those that were in my life around the time of my diagnosis… thank you for being there when I didn’t understand what was happening, the silences we shared taking it all in and for visiting me in hospital and at home when I was unable to be there for you…

    A man’s illness

A man’s illness is his private territory and, no matter how much he loves you and how close you are, you stay an outsider. You are healthy.
