Multiple Sclerosis: The First F____ed Fortnight
A very beautifully written post by my friend Emma, who goes over her first few hours and days after her MS diagnosis. “There’s no doubt, it has been raw, it has been ugly with cursing and swearing, lost relationships dodgy decisions. But I everyday I make peace with myself, I give thanks that I have another moment to live. Because there were times when I didn’t see any hope. I was soaked in blood, sweat and the tears of a thousand years.” (Republic of Emma) Continue reading below…
Medical terminology?
"Because fatigue does not show a relationship with how many plaques your MRI shows, it is often hard to gauge, even though it does predict later brain atrophy in the posterior parietal cortical lobes. Also, MS fatigue comes in two different varieties, the primary and secondary type of fatigue. During functional MRI scans for physical and cognitive tasks, it was clear that inefficient reorganization of a damaged central nervous system took place. MS fatigue is also a medical fact, so, and is associated with other neurological symptoms."
William Butler Yeats @150
William Butler Yeats: Irish prose writer, dramatist and poet; Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923. 1865-1939; compiled the Oxford Book of Modern Verse. My favourite Irish author would have been 150 years today. Ireland, myself included, celebrates a man so talented, his words still touches people today. Two years ago, and on my birthday, I visited Yeats’s grave in Drumcliffe, County Sligo, Ireland. Because he was one of my favourites since my teenage years, it was a bucket-list moment that was finally realized! I wished I was in Sligo this weekend, but I’m sure I will go back before too long, especially since his house, Thoor Ballylee, has finally been opened to the public, something many fans had been asking for a very long time.
MS Ireland: Hope & Empowerment
It’s not the first time I sit back at night and go over past moments that left me inspired and willed me forward to do more, much more. As societies go, there’s a lot of goodwill in MS Ireland, our national MS society. There are also hard facts that tell you that this is a group of outstanding people working towards one goal only: to significantly improve the lives of those living with multiple sclerosis, including their families.
Healthy eating
Eating a balanced diet can be a tricky thing sometimes, especially when temptation is everywhere. I often tell myself, ‘Ah but I’m already doing so much for my health by using my own ‘everything-in-moderation’ diet. Since I don’t consume alcohol or other legal and illegal highs, I something think I am allowed at least a tiny dessert… as long as it’s not ice cream. So yes… Busted! Time so to check out the image below and learn what healthy eating should be like.
