Writing, a quiet observation
There is something about words, something fluid, warm, recognisable and true. Just a short while ago I was again reminded of my love for anything written, and how it more than likely, came to be. Early on in life, I was already a dedicated library-lover. Living above one eased the path towards it, and it definitely turned me into a bibliophile. Countless hours and days were spent walking around in it, searching and nurturing books. When my Dutch language teacher put me on the spot when I was 14 years old, he made me admit blame for a silly grammatical mistake in front of the whole class, asking me if I had any dictionaries at home, and if so, why they weren’t on my desk when I wrote that particular essay. While…
Blog Awards Ireland 2013
Yesterday I found out that a friend nominated me for an Ireland 2013 Blog Award. Needless to say I am chuffed, and blessed! In return I want people to know how honoured I am to have gathered so many followers who are interested in what I bring. Even if you don’t blog yourself, you are the backbone of my reason for writing and I happily return the favour by reading and seeing your work. Reading individual stories often makes me chuckle and laugh, think and discuss. Since there are only a few days left to vote for the Ireland 2013 Blog Awards, I have a favour to ask you. Since finding out that there is even such a thing like Ireland Blog Awards, I’d be totally in awe if you…
The virtue of books
Writing is cathartic, it empties your mind of needless clutter and thoughts that make you feel unhappy, unheard. I started writing as a way to deal with an illness that cannot be cured, but it turned into much more: a passion, a craze. If you write for the right reasons, you add value to your life. If you do not write to get published, and you’re not looking for recognition or fame, then you’re writing because you have to write. You just need to write. You cannot but write. Acknowledgement is nice, but it is not why I sit down with an empty, white page in front of me; it is not my goal. I write because I want to share. Where a painter picks up his brush, I have…
Sunshine Award!
Sometimes surprises arrive when you least expect it. Just now I commented on dear Tink’s blog post on her receipt of the Sunshine Award, sending the comment and only then reading the entire blog post. That’s when I caught sight of my own nomination for the award (which is in fact the actual receipt if the award and not just a nomination).
A Great Moment in My Life Award
Awarding the people who live in the moment The noble who write and capture the best in life The bold who reminded us what really mattered Savouring the experience of quality time Experienced Tutors – who give private English tuition – passed on this memorable award to me. Am I happy and do I feel blessed because of this? Absolutely! Doing back flips, triple Salchow jumps and to top it off, a… if-I-may-say-so… brilliant high jump onto my bed… that’s how happy and blessed I am! (my mattress is groaning under the strain of the jumps, but it knows me… heaven only knows I spend a lot of time sleeping on it! So yep, from my mattress and myself: Experienced Tutors, thank you!)
Divine words
Yes, I do have too much time on my hands. Only said so last night when contemplating my favourite-English-words-list with another history enthusiast. I love lists, the only problem is that I forget either that I ever made a list for so-and-so, or I simply forgot where I put it. Nevertheless, yes… I suppose I really do have a lot of time on my hands. Waking up, taking my meds, attempting to huddle myself downstairs for that much-needed cup of strong caffeine and waiting for an online call from my mum is a religiously followed daily habit. I then try to plan the remainder of the day mindfully but living with MS means that masterminding a day is often like solving a puzzle without having all the bits and pieces…
Patience and persistance
Patience and persistence are key when you first start blogging. Why you want to write publicly is totally your idea, how you do so is by using WordPress and its many users’ intelligence. Almost 2 years into my blogging adventure, I still find it an amazing tool to get your voice heard. When I started blogging, I simultaneously wrote on Blogger as well as on WordPress, just to find out what was the perfect tool for what I wanted out of my blog. After blogging on both for a while, I became very dissatisfied with the lack of settings Blogger had in comparison to WordPress. The choice to drop my Blogger profile was an easy one to make, and to this day, I am still amazed at what WordPress offers…
